Panasonic releases LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 lens

Panasonic has released the LUMIX S 24m f/1.8 prime lens for Leica L mount cameras. The LUMIX S 24m F1.8 has a filter diameter of 67mm and is the same compact size and weight as the standard LUMIX S lens. The lens has a mechanical follow focus system with a linear focus ring adjustment, as well as a micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure changes, all of which are suited for video recording. The LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 lens will be available for 897.99 $.  We still have to wait for about the cost in India.

Panasonic offers a wide range of native lenses as a member of the L-Mount Alliance. It also includes a professional zoom and prime lens at premium pricing. Along with Sigma, we’ve just added more reasonably priced lenses to our lineup.

Panasonic released the F1.8 inexpensive LUMIX S series in November. The LUMIX S 85mm F1.8 was the first lens to be released ( news articles and reviews ). LUMIX S 50mm F1.8 will be released in June 2021. (article here ). Panasonic has revealed the third lens, the LUMIX S 24mm F1.8.

LUMIX s 24mm f / 1.8

The LUMIX S 24mm f/1.8’s tiny size and lightweight are two of its selling qualities. The lens is 73.6 x 82 mm in size and weighs 310 grams. It features a 9-blade aperture, can be set from F1.8 to F16, and can only be operated from the camera side. There is no aperture ring on the lens.

Even at this focal length, if the subject is near to the lens, F1.8 can produce a rather shallow depth of focus. 3 aspherical lenses, 3 ultra-low dispersion lenses, and 1 ultra-low dispersion lens, 12 elements in 11 groups, minimize chromatic aberration and color cast in the LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 lens combination. Sharpness and color accuracy are improved.

This lens’s shortest shooting distance is 24 cm. The linear autofocus motor, according to the firm, minimizes focus breathing, resulting in smooth, accurate, and practically silent focus performance. Because it’s a mechanical follow focus system, the focus ring is controlled using a linear focus ring, making it ideal for video production. According to the rotation angle of the focus ring, the focus can be moved at a constant speed. In addition, it has a micro-step aperture adjustment that allows for seamless exposure changes, which is useful while shooting movies.

Optical image stabilization is not available on this lens, as it is on other LUMIX S lenses. Furthermore, improved weather resistance is achieved by using a dust-proof and drip-proof structure. Like other lenses, it has a 67mm filter diameter. In general, the three existing LUMIX S lenses are similar in weight and size, making gimbals and other accessories easier to set up. The 35mm F1.8, the line’s final lens, will be available soon.

Release date and price

Pre-orders for the LUMIX S 24mm F1.8 are now being taken. The first shipment is expected to arrive in mid-October 2021. 108,900 yen is the price. Because of the great optical difficulty, wide-angle lenses are always more expensive than 85mm and 50mm lenses with the same open value.

Panasonic is more compact and weighs less than the L-mount Sigma 24mm F1.4, which costs roughly the same (310g vs. 665g).
